Oh what a great time of the year. My birthday was just 4 short days ago, that's right, quarter of a century, that's how old this guy is. But the BEST part of this time of the year is National Football League PLAYOFFS!!!!!! Now I will apologize right now for any non-football fans, but this is defianetly a majority sports post.

For anyone following my favorite team, the Indianapolis Colts (Emily) this season, it seemed as though they were having some trouble towards the end of the season, and with all due respect, they were. They had a horrible time stopping the rush, but last night, and oh what a night it was, they figured it out and shut down one of the leagues best rushers and beat the K.C. Chiefs 23 - 8. This has completely reassured me that this is their year.

So I had to work today, which sucked because Kirk had asked me to lead worship this morning and I was really looking forward to it, since it has been a little while, but due to the crappy weather that is on its way for the next couple of days, we had to get a harvest in, and I suppose, that is just the way it goes this time of year.

It's been a while since I've done any music reviews too, so here goes. I got lots of great music for Christmas and my bday, but I'd have to say my favorite was "The John Mayer Trio". I'm sure most of you have at least heard one John Mayer song (Your Body Is a Wonderland, No Such Thing, Daughters) while on this sort of side project he totally unleashes his rocking blues side. It is absolutely awesome. He totally tears it up with great solos and smooth lyrics. Rock on John, Rock on. Anyone that like him a little, or enjoys good blues music, oughta check it out.

Well I hope that everyone is having an extremely funtastic holiday season. I trust that Santa found each and everyone of you, I certainly know that alot of you haven't been blogging much, although I won't call anyone a slogger, because as you know, I am the king of the slogerific.

So be looking for a change in blog settings.... I'm not gonna tell you when, or what, but just stay tuned. Something for everyone to look forward too.

Well here it is December 20th already....wow....where has the year gone? I'm sure I'm not the first person to say that to you or will I be the last....but I sure do know that this year has gone by crazy fast.

So we (Kate and I) are putting are tree up as we speak, ok, so I put the tree up and now she is decorating it and I have to say, it looks pretty good. I have got to wrap some present tomorrow night and when I say some, I mean all of them. I'm an awful wrapper. I just kind of roll the paper over the present, no cutting, just taping, it's insane.

I am very much looking forward to tomorrow because it is my last day of work until boxing day, I know it suck s to work on boxing day, but I'm also taking some time off over new years because my parents and brother are coming over to the island. Which by the way, my b-day is on the third of january, just incase anyone is wondering, and I will be a quarter of a century old...wow.

What a week.

Have you ever had one of those weeks that your glad is over. It was quite a hectic week for me. My boat was in the haul up twice and I still have problems with it, but a little at a time I guess.

Do you ever sometimes wish that you could just get away from it all. I do sometimes... and that's why Kate and I are going to Cuba this winter. It will be nice to go and just relax, away from the stresses of work, away from Salmon....a few more months and it will be so.

So one more month and I will officially be a quarter of a century old..... wow, when I say it like that it seems really old, but I'm actually really only 25. And it's only 22 more days until Christmas, I suppose I should start my shopping.

Ok, I've got a question for all... I see everyone else always seems to have polls on their blogs, so I guess I might try one.... I want to know what your all time favorite Christmas present is. I know that that's not what it's all about, but we do get gifts and I just wonder what your favs have been..... call it a time to reminice about Christmas past.

Return of the KING SLOGGER!!!!!!!!

Well, I guess it's about time for a new post. I am indeed a slogger, but what can ya do..... here I am now. So ya, it's a month before Christmas how crazy is that. I cannot believe how quick this year has gone.

Work has been crazy..... I took a week off to go lobster fishing and I will admit....that job is much harder then mine. I also can't believe that a little after christmas I am going to be 25. That's right, a whole quarter of a century... I am truly an old man.

So good times last night at the Ol' Boys and Girls club telethon. Her and Them made an appearance, well without the her..... we missed you Jess...... A good amount was raised and that's awesome too.

Went for a nice hike today to Hay Point. Kate and I and Scott and Heidi took our dogs, (Faith and Clarkson) on a little jaunt..... it was fun....and a little windy. But it's all good.

Ok, heres a shout out..... YO EMILY!!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!! Keep it real!!!!!!!!

1st day of Bachelor Hood

Well, Kate is in Caraquet. It is a magical place far north from here, but more importantly she got there safe and sound, and now I am here all by myself. So hopefully I won't burn the house done or starve to death or something like that before she gets home.

So I just got in for Jr.Youth and we had this guy, this "Dave" guy we'll call him, speak in place of Tim (not that anyone could ever take Tim's place, love ya buddy) and he did an AWESOME job... the duct tape is now on my guitar case.

So anyways, I just got New Found Glory's new c.d "Coming Home" and it is awesome. Anyone that may be a fan will enjoy it, even though it is a more grown up sound then earlier albums, it is still plain and simple good emo times!!!!

Anyways, this is kind of a short post, but I wanted to update..... I'll keep you all posted on Life and Time at 1387.... my house number....

Poor A-Rod....he's taken the brunt of all the Yankees whoa..... IT'S NOT ALL HIS FAULT GIVE HIM A BREAK..... I sure hope that they don't trade him... I mean he's only the best player in the majors.

Well I'm sure over the upcoming weeks I will take lots of assault over being a Yankees fan, but I'm a fan in good times and in bad, and lately regular season fan...no problem.... post-season fan....a little tough, but I know they will make it eventually.

But at least I have the Colts, and they WILL win the Super Bowl this year.

So anyways.... that's about all the news for now..... keep it real.

Ok, so first of all, yes my computer was done due to an unfortunate accident aboard my boat, and after I did get it back, I still did not have my air card so was unable to get online *side bar* I'm watching t.v whilst I write this and I just saw a commercial for new "Fruity" cherrios..... aren't they called fruit loops???? what's going on....is the "crazy" honey bee trying to get rid of tucan sam? Is there going to be like cereal gang wars... and then who ever wins that's what you have to eat forever.......ok *side bar over*

So, not a whole lot new and exciting since my last post. Work has been pretty crazy, but that's the way we do it in the aquaculture world.

So how happy am I that LOST is back on..... so at first I didn't watch the show, but this summer when good viewing is at a minimum I borrowed the first season from Kirk, and got TOTALLY HOOKED!!!!!! So then we (Kate and I) bought the second season as soon as it came out and watched it in like 4 days...ok maybe a bit more due to work schedules and stuff...but we pounded it out pretty quick, and now the new season is on..... WHAT IS WITH THE OTHERS???? WHAT IS WITH THE ISLAND????? this is up for discussion....please discuss.....

Anways, sorry for the lengthy length between posts....but I'm back with a vengence.....10 wins until the Yankees are world series champs again......

Weekly Review #3

Well here it is September 5th already,and that means I am back to work. Oh well, I guess all good things do come to an end, but I must say I throughly enjoyed my time off, and now am looking towards next big vacation ( Cuba In February Sweet ). So lets see what has happened.

Right off, don't look for any 6 flags reports, because we did not make it, much to my shugrin (is that spelled right not neves?) The weather was not in our favour.

So when I last posted Kate and I were on our way to my mom and dads, where we enjoyed 3 days and a bit of relaxing family time, relaxing of course if you can call your sister in law and mother having to go to the emergency room relaxing. Oh well, they were both ok and it wasn't real serious. I did beat my brother at golf so that was also sweet. We also brought a big chunk of our winter wood home.

Sunday night (27th) Kate and I made our way to Saint John to watch "Talladega Nights, The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" (That JUST HAPPENED!!!!!) Now I completely understand Kirk's 25% pholosophy, but I did enjoy it, funny stuff.... and I'm sure it was better then "Snakes on A Plane"

Was home for youth on Tuesday and still have a large rug burn upon mine left elbow, but I digress.

We left for Maine with Brain and Karey ( father and stepmother of Kate ) on Thursday afternoon and I had an absolute blast hanging out with Kate's family whilst in the midst of my summer road trip. We spent lots of money and brought home some nice things, but (here we go with mushy mushy sentiment) my favorite part was the bonding. It was cool hanging with Brian and Robert and the boys, and I had all kinds of fun with my nephew Carter.

We got home last night , after my parents almost didn't get my truck back in time (drove on the boat as they were putting the ramp up, it was NUTS total Dukes of Hazard moment) maybe.

Anyways that's it for now.....ooooo ooo oooo. Almost forgot, music to check out.... CARTEL!!! they are this upbeat punky sort of sounding band and their lead singer as a phenomanal voice, they are getting heavy play on my Ipod and on my itunes whilst I am sailing..... Good listening to yas....

Weekly Review

Well here it is again, alittle over a week, but close enough to count. First off we had a new edition to the Boyd house hold. Meiko!!!!!! He's the orange cat in the top picture. We got him so that Snickers (bottom picture) would have someone to play with. Also pictured is our pride and joy Faith.

Work has been pretty hectic, but I am now OFFICIALLY on vacation. Actually I am on the ferry right now heading to my parents house for the weekend, ahhh wireless internet. So my next week in review will probably be full of fun things, because I'll be going golfing this afternoon, plus we are going to the States next weekend, for a shopping extravaganza plus a trip to SIX FLAGS!!!!! woohoo!!!!!

Don't worry Emily I'll be home on tuesday to go to Youth.

Oh and to Kirk, I'm sorry you had to waste your money, you can just give it to me if you want, instead of wasting it on "Snakes on a Plane". Scottie said it sucked, and I agree with him, just from comericials.

Have you ever been really tired....?

Since things have been quite hectic in my life, and I am now feeling very bad for neglecting my blog, that I am gonna try my hardest to do a weekly blog, and if anything AMAZING happens throughout the week that I can't wait to write about then I'll post extra. So this will be the first of these(It'll actually be a little more then a week) So lets get started.

Two sundays ago, my good friend Rev. Tim Branscomb spoke an incredible message that center on the so called "hot topic" on the island right now and it was awesome. Thanks Tim for using the gifts that God gave you and for listening to the Lord's direction.

We had a company picnic and it was a lot of fun (pictures to come). Baseball is almost over and the Devil Rays front office staff (me and scottie) are going to make some off season aquisations, and there is rumors of an entire league draft which would be sweet, so I'll keep you all posted.

Kirk is home, YAY, but now Tim is gone again. Scott was home for a few hours, and now also is gone....what a crazy summer. Oh well in 2 weeks time I'll finally be taking my vacation. HOORAY. Oh and to "Not Neves" thanks for the compliment on Her and Them , and my apologies for not making it last night, we had guests stop in unexpectedly, but we hope to have another BBQ here in the near future....more to come.....

Okay, now onto the title. Have you ever been so tired that you can't sleep? I've often heard this stuff and thought people were crazy, but I'm a currently experienceing that, so if anyone has any advice, that'd be great..... be good...

Three Season Ant!!!!!!!!

Ok, what more can I say other then, THESE GUYS REALLY ROCK!!!!!! Once again Chris,Chris, Kevin , Anthony, and of course, sound man extraordinare Mike, graced our fair island with their presence, and they brought the ROCK to the rock. The boys never cease to amaze me. It seems like every time I hear them, they get better and better. I am very glad to be able to call these guys friends, because not only to they rock my socks off, they are so humble and such solid guys. So boys, if you read this, COME BACK ANYTIME!!!!!! One of the highlights, and there were many, was hearing their rendition of "Fix You" by Coldplay, it sounded awesome.

And I'm sure all of you weren't really surprised by the "secret" band, Her and Them. I hope you all enjoyed it, 'cause we had a lot of fun bringing it to ya's. And as always, "The Band formerly known as 7 cent tip" got the crowd going with their high energy worship. Quodos to guitar legend Jeff Bergen for tearing it up on Open the eyes of my sweet child of mine!!!!!!!

All in all a great night of music , fun and all around good times. Oh ya, and finally some good weather. Thanks loyal readers, YOU ALL ALSO ROCK!!!!!!

Superman Returns in a Death Cab For Cutie

Well I finally got off the island for a few minutes last night. Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my island home and can't think of somewhere else I'd rather live, but when a fellow is working ALOT and haven't had much time to do anything or even hardly spend time with his wife, it's nice to just get away and leave everything behind even if just over night. So it was nice to get away and get rested up a little because I've still got a fairly busy month or so ahead of me.

SUPERMAN returned, and I enjoyed it immensly. Mind you I would have changed a few things if it were my movie to do so, but all in all, I give it a 3.5 out of 5. I just know that there will be sequels to follow.

So now that I'm home I'm just listening to some of the new music I purchased whilst away. Currently I am rocking out to Death Cab for Cutie's new album "Plans". Now I've only stumble upon this band about 5 months ago (thank you again Sirius Satalite Radio) and they have been a hot spot on the indie circuit for awhile now, and I have to say, I can totally understand why. They are great. The way that chief lyricist Benjamin Gibbard writes songs is just amazing. Like take this line in the chorus of "I will Follow You into The Dark" "......Illuminate the NO's on their Vacancy signs....." awesome. Anyways, check them out..... I can't really compare them to any thing else out there, because they aren't like anything else out there. Just listen for yourself.

Life Can Be Crazy

Well now that everyone has made their pilgramige to Beulah and back, I figure that there will be people around to read my blog, so here I am back blogging.

Hopefully everyone enjoyed their off time, and I know that I am looking very forward to tomorrow night (friday) Kate and I are going away and I'm finally going to get to see the new Superman movie....a woo hoo.....

In Devil Rays news, we've been struggling abit, but I truly believe that we will come back around before playoffs.... I've still yet to see a single reader of this blog out to a D-Rays game, but oh well, I can see how some people have their priorities mixed up. Anyways the next game is Saturday night at 6 in the Seal Cove Sky Dome.

6 days til 3 season. a WOO HOO. I've heard the secret band had a practice last night, and on lookers even came in to listen.....things are coming along well.....

Well I guess that's all the news.. I'm sure I'll have more to say after I come back from town. haven't been away in over 2 months so I'm stoked to get away. I need at least 24 hours away from my boat and salmon, cause I'm goin' a little crazy. But that's aquaculture. Summer is our busy time....

After some amazing miracle catches by Scottie , Pat Miller and maybe even me combined with great hitting all around and amazing base running by Jayden Wilson, the Devial Rays, or should we be called the "Miracle" Rays upset the mighty Twins 11-7 to gain our first official win. So congrats to the team and be sure to come out and show your support. Next game is Thursday night against the Twins again. Go D-Rays Go!!!!!!!

Dusk and Summer

I know it's crazy that I am back to back posting , but I am just lying in my living room and listening to Dashboard Confessional's new album (the name of my post) and it is FREAKIN' AMAZING!!!!!!! They are without a doubt my favorite band and they have amazed me once again. I know that there are haters out there, but just give them a chance. There is something about this album that makes me wish I were on a beach at a bonfire with my wife and good friends just enjoying life and love and such.

Anyways, that's all I have to say, and I know I talked about Dashboard being a band to check out, and if you haven't yet, PLEASE do.... give it an honest listen, don't be swayed by my opinion and don't be swayed by the haters, make your own honest judgement, that's all I ask.

SO BUSY

Let me first start out by apologizing for being two weeks between posts, but work has been a little crazy and late nights mean sleep before blog. I know I know, your questioning my blogging committment, but really I do need sleep, ask my wife.

So lets see, haven't really played baseball since last post due to my back problems, but fear not D-Ray faithful, I will be back in uniform for Friday nights game.

Work has been crazy, but I still love my job. I've learned that crazy is just a part of aquaculture period, and that's ok.

Thanks to all who came out to Kate and I's BBQ.... I don't think that's a proper sentence but oh well it's my blog and I can spell badly if I want to. We had a blast and hope to have another later in the summer when the sun decides to shine on our fair Island, so probably around October.

3 Season Ant concert is soon, make sure you go, cause they will rock, and a new island band will be making their debut (you may ask questions, but I am sworn to secrecy on their names and the name of the band.)

Also another band to check out is Tom Delonge(former guitarist for Blink 182)'s new band "Angels and Airwaves". For anyone that thinks that this is just a Blink sounding band they are wrong. Now don't get me wrong I am a Blink fan but Angels and Airwaves is something all together different. The music is very U2 esque on some songs and then others they are just flat rocking out. Standout tracks include the whole album!!!!! My favorite song right now is "The War". Check them out @ angelsandairwaves.com. Keep Rocking!!!!!

Venting Post, be warned

Ok, so it's been a few days since my last post, and the majority of my posts so far have been fairly positive, so now it's time for a rant.

WHY DOES THE MAJORITY OF MUSIC PLAYED ON THE RADIO AND MUCH MUSIC SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????????????????????

So I've been sick for a few days and I hurt my back at work on tuesday (another story altogether) so I have been home all day and I've come to the realization that you don't need to be talented , play an instrument or write your own songs to get on the radio and have your videos played. This fact ticks me off!!!!!!!Why are some of these people famous? Especially the ones that can't sing outside of the studio *cough*Ashlee Simpson *cough*. As a musician this bothers me. Our airwaves are crowded with ridiculous musical acts singing about ridiculous things, so I am going to make it a new part of my blog to inform those who care about good music certain bands to check out.

Ok, now that I've cleared my chest on that subject, I woke up this morning and couldn't stand. That sucked. So now I'm home by myself because Kate is away to meetings and the weather can't even be nice, so hopefully my new found medications and a good nights sleep will make everything better.

In Devil Rays news, we lost last night, moving our record to 1 win 3 losses, but we are still in third place, and I will hopefully be on the bench for our games this weekend (weather permitting) so come down and help me cheer our team, because I won't be lacing up the cleats the way my back feels.

First band to check out: DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL!!!!!! if you've been under a rock and not paying attention to me at all since I've moved to Grand Manan these guys are the poster boys of the EMO Genre. I know there are haters out there, but that's only because there are some people that can't appreciate amazing musical talent and great song writing. dashboardconfessional.com will give you all you need to know. Their new album also "drops" this month, and you wanna believe I'll be catching it. And they are also the only band (other then 3 season ant) that I've seen in concert more than once.

What's the deal with all this rain?

Alright, at first I was like, well April showers bring May flowers, but then I was like, "IT WAS NICE IN APRIL!!!!!!! and now there seems to be no end in sight for the rain. Apparently we should rename Grand Manan summer to "Rainy Season" oh well.......

So I'm very impressed at the already positive response to this blog and I will do my best to keep myself entertained with it. So I guess it's time for some up dates.

1. Carolina Sucks. I still can't believe the Oilers luck. Oh well, I suppose that even with a back up goalie , they can't win a game if they don't SCORE!!!!!! I think my hopes of a Canadian team winning the cup are dashed. But of course there are mostly canadians on the hurricanes....so I guess that's good.

2. DEVIL RAYS ON A WIN STREAK. That's right, the weather actually allowed us to play on Friday night and we won ( because no one showed up for the other team ) but whatever, it still counts as a win, and I think as sort of a confidence booster that will continue to raise us to the team we are meant to be. Not sure when next game will be , but stayed tuned, and we'll see if mother nature allows us to play.

3. My truck is still better then Scott's.

Weekend in Review

Okay a few things:

1. AWESOME PASTOR STRIKES AGAIN. My pastor rules!!!! Seriously, I don't tell him enough so I am making my new blog a shout out to him. Kirk your awesome, and your message sunday was inspiring (as well as your message at youth).

2. Ball Games cancelled. For all those with season tickets to the Grand Manan Devil Rays my sincere apologies for mother nature cancelling our game saturday night. Stay tuned for make up game schedule. Next game is Friday night @ 6 p.m vs. The Mariners.

3. Stanley Cup Final Conspiracy. Oilers fan or not, Monday night was a travesty. Dwayne Roloson (My all time favorite Saint John Flame) was viciously taken out of the rest of the playoffs. My question for your consideration is if the attack was purposeful or if it was an accident. I have not made my ruling on the situation yet, but I do hope that the Oilers will not be overcome with anger and play with clear heads and win the Cup for the gipper or in this case Roly The Goalie!!!!!

4. THREE SEASON ANT CONCERT. Chris, Chris, Kevin, Anthony and sound man extraordinare Mike are making their Annual Grand Manan visit to rock the island on Wednesday night July 26. Stay tuned for more updates and times and opening acts. If you haven't heard the new album "Redefined Logic" get in now, or at least call 97.3 the wave and request the new single "All For You" and check out their music video on their website. My goal, to request it on Much Music!!!!!

What a great place to have a wedding

Well yesterday morning my wife Kate and I hosted the Outhouse/Urquhart wedding in our back yard, and thankfully it stopped raining long enough to get the ceremony done....mind you it POURED at the anchorage during the reception. For those who don't know, the wedding starred one of Kate's best friends, and also a pretty good friend of mine, Hank aka Jancia Urquhart aka Janica Outhouse and her now husband Micheal Outhouse aka Munchie. The ceremony was nice and the BBQ after was awesome, but to my disdain I didn't see Vince Vaughn or Owen Wilson anywheres. I am starting to think that the movie "Wedding Crashers" although very funny isn't really a biopic. All in all it was a good day, and I would like to personally extend my congrats to the new happy couple. More pics will be available soon on Kate's MSN page which I will be linking soon as well.

But now that I've got the serious part of the post out of the way I must give some more updates. For all GMMLB fans (Grand Manan Mens League) last night was not a good night for the new look Devil Rays. But do not despair, even the greatest team in baseball (NEW YORK YANKEES) have had their behinds handed to them occasionally, and like a pheonix from the ashes of loss the D-Rays will rise again. Positives on the night where the stellar play of rookie short-stop Brian "Tard" Parsons and the pitching debut of Jayden Wilson. Next game is Saturday night at 6 p.m at Seal Cove Colliseum vs. the Twins, come out and show your support. GO D-Rays......

Well the walls have finally fallen down..... I am officially a blogger......(applause here) That's right, Dan Boyd has just laid down a piece of property on the information super highway we call the "internet". I don't know what to tell you to expect from this blog. The title pretty much sums it up. Some days I may vent frustrations with the world (i.e. politics, stupid people, sports) or I may use it to shout aloud opinions on things I think are great, or not so great.....it'll really depend on my mood....but I do promise to keep myself entertained with it and hope that you all may enjoy it as well..... yay for me.....
